Thamizhachi Thangapandian
Thamizhachi Thangapandian (born 25 April 1962), also known as Sumathy, is an Indian poet, lyricist, orator, politician and writer. She has been a member of the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Parliament of India, since the 2019 Indian general election as a member of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). She worked as a lecturer in English at Queen Mary's College, Chennai before entering politics.

Early life and education
Thamizhachi Thangapandian was born in 1962 to V. Thangapandian and Rajamani Pappathy. Her higher education was completed at Thiagarajar College of Arts & Science, Madurai Kamarajar University and the University of Madras, Chennai. Her PhD was in English Literature. Her younger brother, Thengam Thenarasu, is an active DMK politician.

She is one of the prominent woman leaders and orators in the DMK. She stood in the Indian general election, 2019 from Chennai South (Lok Sabha constituency). She was elected again in 2024 and continues to serve as a Member of Parliament, 17th Lok Sabha.
