Gottfried Mann

He was first taught piano and theory by Emile Wagner, and then, after enrolling into the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, he began studying with Willem Nicolaï for composition, Carel Wirtz for piano, and "Mulder" for violin.

During his lifetime, his works were featured alongside well-known European composers like Antonín Dvořák and well-respected Dutch composers like Bernard Zweers and Alphons Diepenbrock. He also had interest in the public education of music and musical taste according to documented statements. Despite being a composer, he is best remembered as an orchestral conductor, recognized by musicologist Henri Anastase Viotta as such.

- 1.In zowel zijn geboorteakte (Haags Gemeentearchief, geboorten 1858, akte 1415), als zijn twee huwelijksakten (zie hieronder) en zijn overlijdensakte (Rosmalen, overlijden 1904, akte 13) wordt zijn naam geschreven als "Johann Godfried Hendrik". Een uittreksel van zijn overlijdensakte werd op 19 februari 1904 ingeschreven in Amsterdam (Stadsarchief, overlijden 1904, akte 1436, register 2, folio 120v).
- 2.Haags Gemeentearchief, huwelijken 1883, akte 800. De geboortedatum en -plaats van Henriette (voluit: Henriette Jeanne Josephine) Stucky staan in de huwelijksbijlagen. Zie het Gemeentearchief (overlijden 1906, akte 1064) voor haar overlijden. Henriette was de jongste dochter van Louis (Ludwig) Stucky (1815-1870) en Sophie Eleonore Johanna de Quay (1820-1888). Haar vader was directeur van de Banque Cantonale du Valais. Haar moeder Sophie behoorde tot het geslacht De Quay, dat is opgenomen in Nederland's Patriciaat 48 (1962: 243-264; 248 voor Sophie). Terzijde: Louis Stucky is op 21 september 1870 in Sion overleden en niet, zoals NP 48 beweert, in 1869 in Veroli (zie de huwelijksbijlagen van Henriettes huwelijk). NP 48 noemt hem Ludwig Stücky, maar in de akten heet hij Louis en wordt Stucky zonder puntjes op de u geschreven.
- 3.Het vonnis werd op 22 januari 1898 ingeschreven in Amsterdam (huwelijken 1898, akte 182, register 2, folio 47). Als grond voor de scheiding wordt vermeld: het "overspel door de gedaagde [Stucky] gepleegd met zekeren Willem van Kooten". Henriette Stucky is op 12 november 1903 in Woerden hertrouwd met de tandarts Joachim Adolf Herman Broese van Groenou (1869-1926).
