Osamu Tezuka

Osamu Tezuka (手塚 治虫, born 手塚 治, Tezuka Osamu, 1928 11 3 – 9 February 1989) was a Japanese manga artist, cartoonist and animator. Considered to be among the greatest and most influential cartoonists of all time, his prolific output, pioneering techniques and innovative redefinitions of genres earned him such titles as "the Father of Manga", "the Godfather of Manga" and "the God of Manga". Additionally, he is often considered the Japanese equivalent to Walt Disney, who served as a major inspiration during Tezuka's formative years.

Osamu Tezuka (1928–1989) was an animator, artist and character designer, among other activities, of Japanese nationality. The animator was born in Toyonaka and died in Hanzomon Hospital.

Osamu Tezuka was educated at Ikeda Elementary School, Nara Medical University and Osaka Prefectural Kitano High School, among others. The animator was a member of Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of Japan.

Among the works are Astro Boy, Atomcat, Black Jack and Dororo, among others. Languages used include Japanese. Honours include Asahi Prize, Best foreign work published in Spain and Eisner Award, among others.
