Biography
Jean Victor Schnetz studied at Beaux-Arts de Paris. The recorded working language is French. Positions recorded include director of the French Academy in Rome. Work by Jean Victor Schnetz is recorded in the collections of Minneapolis Institute of Art, Art Institute of Chicago, Musée de l'Histoire de France, Musée du Château de Flers and Hermitage Museum. Distinctions recorded are Prix de Rome.
Schnetz studied in Paris under Jacques-Louis David. His works can be found at the Louvre Museum and the Petit Palais in Paris, the Château de Versailles in Versailles, the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, and the Museum of Fine Arts in San Francisco. In 1837 Schnetz was elected to the Académie des Beaux-Arts, and he was twice the Director of the French Academy in Rome, from 1841 to 1846 then again in 1853-1866. Schnetz was made a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor in 1825, and raised to Commander in 1866.
