Adolf Hoffmeister

Adolf Hoffmeister (15 August 1902 – 24 July 1973) was a Czech writer, playwright, painter, draughtsman, scenographer, cartoonist, translator, diplomat, lawyer, university professor and traveller. During the war, he served as editor of the radio station Voice of America, and after the war the Czechoslovak ambassador to France. In 1951 he became a professor at the Academy of Arts and Crafts in Prague.

Adolf Hoffmeister worked in Lisbon, New York City and Paris. Activity centred on diplomacy, drama and law.

Languages used include Czech, English and French. Honours include Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres, Commander of the Order of Polonia Restituta and Commander of the Order of the Crown (Romania), among others.
