Born at Amsterdam in 1661, died in Stockholm in 1697.

Commissioned by De Lespine, Willem_Swidde (c. 1660-1697) engraved a series of views of the famous gardens of Versailles between 1683 and 1684. A series of prints with the same subject published in Paris and engraved by Nicolas Perelle formed the source of inspiration for this series of prints.

The gardens of the casle of Versailles are considered as the creation of the French king Louis XIV. Louis XIV had a particularly liking of flowers and these were therefore present in abundance in the castle le grand trianon. This view on the flower gardens was engraved in 1684 by Willem_Swidde (c. 1660-1697).
