Mesangylon

Mesangylon

Athlete holding a javelin; near his right hand is a thong (ankulē or amentum) fastened around the shaft which was used to increase the stability and the carry of the javelin. Detail from an Attic red-figure cup, ca. 470 BC. Found in Vulci.
