In 2019, Gov. Brian Kemp recognized Mercer University Press as a recipient of the eighth annual Governor's Awards for the Arts and Humanities. A member of the Association of University Presses and The Green Press Initiative. Press awards the Ferrol Sams Award for Fiction annually. It is "given to the best manuscript that speaks to the human condition in a Southern context. This category includes both novels and short stories.
