The name Limeil comes from the Gaulish leoialo, meaning 'elm village.' Brévannes is thought to be derived from the Gaulish bebros, meaning 'beaver', and the Celtic suffix -onne, meaning 'watercourse'. The Hôtel de Ville was completed in 1972.
