Gilbert Banester
Gilbert Banester (also Banaster, Banastir, Banastre; c. 1445 – 1487) was an English composer and poet of Flemish influences. He was a significant and influential proponent of the English votive style.

- 1.Diskutiert wird zum einen ein Geburtsdatum zwischen 1420 und 1425, zum anderen eines um 1445. Für ein Geburtsdatum vor 1425 sprechen eine Banester zugeschriebene englische Übersetzung Legend of Sismond einer Novelle aus dem Decamerone Giovanni Boccaccios, die in zwei Manuskripten aus der Mitte des 15. Jahrhunderts erhalten ist, welche Banesters Namen erwähnen. Auch die Mitgliedschaft in der Fraternity of St. Nicholas spricht gegen das zweite in der Literatur diskutierte Geburtsdatum um 1445. - 3.Da sich zwei seiner Kompositionen im Manuskript Pepys 1236 befinden, einem Manuskript, das scheinbar in der Almonry Chapel der Christ Church Cathedral Priory in Canterbury entstand, und Kompositionen von Komponisten mit Verbindungen zur Grafschaft Kent enthält, wird auch ein Aufenthalt in Canterbury diskutiert.
