Eric Dolphy

Eric Allan Dolphy Jr. (June 20, 1928 – June 29, 1964) was an American jazz multi-instrumentalist, composer, and bandleader. Primarily an alto saxophonist, bass clarinetist, and flautist, Dolphy was one of several multi-instrumentalists to gain prominence during the same era.

Eric Dolphy (1928–1964) was an American clarinetist, composer and jazz musician, among other activities. Born in Los Angeles, the clarinetist died in West Berlin.

Eric Dolphy studied at Susan Miller Dorsey High School. The clarinetist was a member of Charles Mingus Sextet, Jazz Artists Guild and John Coltrane Quintet. Genres include avant-garde jazz, free jazz and hard bop, among others.
